Beautifully Subtle

I couldn’t wait to get home and review my images.

I spent the day at Tower City Center – an indoor shopping, casino and business complex situated on Public Square in downtown Cleveland.

The center is graced by a magnificent skylight, a circular glass dome and ornately decorated Beaux-Arts ceilings, windows and doorways. In addition, from the Observation Deck on the 42nd floor of the landmark Terminal Tower building, I had a bird’s eye view of the city’s skyline and Lake Erie shore. I just knew I had created something gloriously dramatic.

And yes, there were a handful of images that successfully captured the striking architectural wonders of this facility and the views from on high.

But it was this quietly subtle image which became one of my favorites from this photo outing. This image, where the spectacular glass dome is just out of sight, only its partial reflection visible. We can feel the lofty space above our heads and sense the streaming sunlight. It holds the promise of something more.

A reminder that a whisper can be as arresting as a shout. A reminder to see beyond the obvious subjects and to keep searching for the story that speaks to the heart.

  1. Beautifully said, Brenda. I feel the same way.

  2. I sometimes think a whisper can be as arresting, if not more, than a shout. Stunning PHC.

  3. I love this so much…and I love it when you know that you’ve captured something special and can’t wait to see the images. This image is beautiful. And I couldn’t agree more, the power is most certainly in the whisper and speaks directly to the heart.

  4. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful! You know I love this type of architecture, and this image really captures my heart. If only more people understood the power of the whisper…..

  5. Really beautiful, Brenda!

  6. Such a striking b&w photo with beautiful words to match.

  7. I don’t blame you, what a stunning image! “to search beyond the obvious subjects” – that speaks to me today in more ways than one!

  8. All the pictures are just beautiful, and I love your choice

  9. What wonderful framing, Brenda! The image is so beautiful, and the B&W adds to its subtlety, too. Lovely.

  10. What a beautiful composition and that reflection is amazing!

  11. Fabulous image and words!

  12. Fabulous shot… what a great view!

  13. Love all that architectural detail!

  14. Beautifully seen Brenda! And perfectly symmetrical! Every detail is in beautiful focus and, with most of your images, I find quiet and peace here. Even speaking with an “inside” voice would be too much! Wonderful!

  15. Wonderful composition, the reflection is amazing and made me imagine the whole structure of the building… beautiful words too. Fantastic PHC

  16. the simple rather than the extravagant–a blessing in and of itself. Thanks for the reminder.
